muzzle flashes and lightsabers

ive got my computer set up for video editing using Premire.

what im wondering: how can i add muzzle flashes to guns, and glowing light around my plastic lightsabers?
what programs do i need? (free ones preferably)
any online resources for instructions on doing basic computer fx?

any help yall can offer is greatly appreciated.

Okay, basically what you're going to need to do here is learn about the transparency and motion settings in Premiere. You won't need any additional software for this trick, either.

First, find [or make] a still image of a muzzle flare or a glowing lightsaber. Then, import that image file into premiere. Set the clip you want the image superimposed onto on video line 1A, and place the still image onto video line 2. Then, it's a case of fiddling with the transparency settings [you'll want to use the luminance setting there] and the motion settings for the clips. With little effort, you can combine the muzzle flare or glow of a lightsabre onto your footage, and provide movement for the still image you created so that it seems to be a natural part of the scene.

Just takes some toying with. As far as I know, that's the easiest way to combine those effects.

Quick question, i've seen this Alam DV programme mentioned alot.

I downloaded it a while back, but never found a working serial number for it.

And you'd be **** right if you think i'm not going to pay through my *** for a couple of numbers of letters.

Could anyone help out a no-budget filmmaker?

I've made my own flashes using sheps' process for my projects the last year or so. Where can you find a picture of muzzle flash? That'd probably look much better than my drawn ones.

if you are going to go the trouble to brake the law and get pirate software you might aswell get something decent. Adobe After Effects is the daddy.
